This is the second collaboration between Saif and Madhur after Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015). The film's title means "Guardian". The film was screened at the Moscow International Film Festival.The story is about a female police officer, Rani Mukerji, who takes on the underworld. The role of Rani Mukerji is played by Kangana Ranaut, while Saif Ali Khan plays the role of ACP Siddharth Anand, an encounter specialist officer who is called in Mumbai to help her. The film starts with a girl trying to commit suicide by jumping from a building but is saved by Siddharth Anand (Saif Ali Khan). When asked why she was trying to commit suicide, she tells him that her life is in danger. Siddharth asks her where she's staying and takes her to the police station. However, she refuses to give any information about herself and says that she doesn't trust the cops. She adds that a cop named ACP Rani Mukerji is the only one who can help her. The news of this girl spreads around police station and ACP Rani Mukerji (Kangana Ranaut) comes there and takes the case from Siddharth Anand. ACP Rani interrogates the girl who introduces herself by her name Jhanvi. When she gets to know that Jhanvi has offered Rani Mukerji a bribe, she shows her a fake Aadhaar card and says that her name is Ganga. The fake Aadhaar card has a picture of a lady, who resembles Jhanvi.Meanwhile, Siddharth Anand comes across an old lady whose husband had been murdered ten years ago and the case was unsolved. He thinks that it's the same case as Jhanvi's and goes to Rani Mukerji to consult her. Rani tells him that she wants to crack this case herself and questions him about his past because there might be some connection between the two cases. What follows from this scene is discussed below in this section. The film starts with ACP Siddharth Anand (Saif Ali Khan) doing his duty. He meets Jhanvi (Kangana Ranaut) who lives in Singapur, after which the story goes back to ten years earlier. Siddharth Anand was working as an assistant commissioner of police in Mumbai. Ten years ago, he was transferred to the same station where Jhanvi's case takes place now i.e., Colaba Branch Office. He gets promoted as an ACP and is ordered by his senior officer to provide security to Goddess Parvati during Ganesh Festival at Malabar Hill.
